Answers, Part Two

October 02, 2026•8 min read

In this sermon, Pastor Rob Rotola continues his Answers series, this time tackling over 30 submitted questions in rapid-fire fashion, 25 of which are summarized below. He opens by contrasting Christianity with every other religious system: rather than humanity working to earn its way to God, Christianity teaches that God did the work through Jesus' death on the cross, offering entrance into heaven through faith rather than merit.

Sermon Highlights

1. Who Will Preach to the Lost During the Tribulation?

For those who hold to a pre-tribulation rapture, he explains there are four groups who will continue preaching: 144,000 Jewish evangelists (12,000 from each tribe), their converts, leftover Christian literature and media, and two unnamed witnesses who preach during the tribulation's final half.

2. What Role Will the US Play in the End Times?

He states the Bible does not specify America's role. He addresses the popular interpretation that the reference to "eagle's wings" in Revelation 12:14 points to the US protecting Israel, but refutes this by comparing it to Exodus 19:4, showing the eagle's-wings imagery predates America and instead symbolizes God's general protective care.

3. What Do 2 Corinthians 3:7–9 and 4:1 Mean?

He explains that the "ministry that brought death" refers to the Law (the Ten Commandments), which exposed humanity's sinfulness and inability to achieve righteousness on its own. By contrast, the "ministry we have received" in chapter 4 refers to the ministry of the Spirit under the New Covenant.

4. Are Mild Slang Words Like "Dang" Wrong?

He gives a simple rule: if a word functions as a substitute for profanity, avoid it; if it's genuinely not a cuss word, it's fine.

5. Why Does the Modern Church Reject Some Gifts in Ephesians 4:11?

He notes that some churches accept only pastors, teachers, and evangelists while rejecting the offices of apostle and prophet. He personally affirms all five gifts remain active today, provided modern prophecy aligns with the already-completed Scripture rather than introducing new doctrine.

6. Is There Forgiveness for Abortion or Sexual Sin?

He affirms unequivocally that both are forgivable, distinct from the one unpardonable sin (addressed later). He encourages anyone carrying guilt over these issues to receive God's forgiveness and move forward rather than letting shame limit their future ministry.

7. Why Did Jesus "Kind of Ignore" the Ten Commandments?

He explains Jesus shifted the emphasis from a list of prohibitions to a relationship built on loving God and neighbor, noting that fulfilling this command naturally fulfills the Ten Commandments as well.

8. Why Do We Allow Tattoos Despite Leviticus 19:28?

He explains the original prohibition targeted marking the body in devotion to false gods, not tattoos in general. Decorative tattoos or ones with personal or spiritual meaning are not the same practice being condemned.

9. Why Does the Catholic Bible Have More Books?

He explains that Catholic Bibles include the "intertestamental" or Apocryphal books written between the Old and New Testaments. He outlines reasons Protestants exclude them: they're rarely quoted in the New Testament, and they contain teachings (like praying for the dead, purgatory, and paying for forgiveness) that contradict clear biblical teaching elsewhere.

10. Was Adam a Baby When He Was Created? How Long Were Adam and Eve in Eden?

He explains Adam was created fully grown, evidenced by his immediate responsibility to tend the garden. Eve was created the same day. Based on genealogical calculations, he estimates Adam and Eve spent a maximum of 130 years in Eden.

11. Is It Adultery To Leave an Abusive Spouse and Remarry?

He distinguishes between abuse (which biblically warrants separation, not necessarily divorce) and situations involving desertion by an unbeliever (which does permit divorce). For those who divorced and remarried outside strict biblical guidelines, he encourages seeking forgiveness rather than living under ongoing guilt, affirming that God can bless a marriage even if it didn't begin under ideal circumstances.

12. Did LGBTQ+ People Exist in Biblical Times? How Should We Interact With Them?

He affirms this has existed throughout history, citing Genesis 18–19 and Romans 1, while expressing concern about modern cultural promotion of these identities. He emphasizes responding with love and evangelism together, cautioning against treating this as a uniquely severe sin compared to others.

13. Can One Person Have All the Spiritual Gifts?

He answers no, explaining that only Jesus possessed the Spirit without measure. He distinguishes three biblical gift categories: Romans 12 gifts (which ordinary people possess), Ephesians 4 gifts (which people like pastors or teachers possess), and 1 Corinthians 12 gifts (which manifest temporarily as the Spirit wills and are not permanently owned).

14. How Does the Bible Define Marriage?

Using Genesis 2:18–24, he defines biblical marriage as one man and one woman united for life, becoming "one flesh."

15. What About Common-Law Marriage?

Referencing Isaac and Rebekah's marriage in Genesis 24, he notes it involved no formal ceremony, only mutual consent and commitment. He explains common-law marriage historically arose in areas lacking access to religious or legal officials, and he offers to personally officiate weddings free of charge for couples in his congregation who cite financial barriers, discouraging cohabitation outside marriage.

16. How Do You Know Who Is a True Modern-Day Prophet?

He offers four tests: their message aligns with Scripture, they point to Christ rather than themselves, they welcome accountability, and they don't offer exclusively flattering, ear-tickling prophecies.

17. How Do I Discern God's Leading From My Own?

He explains this discernment develops naturally through growing familiarity with Scripture and an ongoing relationship with the Holy Spirit, aided by asking whether a leading glorifies God and aligns with Scripture.

18. What Is the Unforgivable Sin?

Using Matthew 12:22–32, he explains that the unpardonable sin is deliberately and knowingly rejecting Jesus as Messiah while recognizing the truth. This is exemplified by the Pharisees attributing Christ's work to Satan despite witnessing His power.

19. Why Does Pastor Rob Wear a Ball Cap in Church?

He shares that this is practical, related to recovering from head surgery, and clarifies that New Testament instructions about head coverings were culturally specific rather than universal commands.

20. Should Revealing Clothing Be Tolerated in Church?

He says such clothing isn't ideal, but the church should extend grace to newcomers rather than enforcing strict dress codes, intervening only in extreme cases. He shares a story of a legalistic visitor who once judged him over hair length.

21. Should Convicted Sex Offenders Work With Children in Church?

He states clearly that they should not, emphasizing that this isn't about withholding forgiveness but prioritizing child safety, with other ministry opportunities available instead.

22. Should the Seven Old Testament Feasts Be Celebrated Forever?

He clarifies that "perpetuity" in Leviticus 23 applied only while the Old Covenant was in effect, not as an eternal requirement, citing Colossians 2:16–17.

23. What Does Pastor Rob Think of the Eastern Orthodox Church?

He respects their capacity for good works but rejects their elevation of the seven ecumenical councils to a level equal to Scripture.

24. Why Don't Women Wear Head Coverings Today?

He explains this was a culturally specific practice symbolizing submission to one's husband, not a command intended for all times and places.

25. Why Are Women Allowed To Teach Despite Paul's Instructions?

He argues Paul's command for women to remain silent addressed a specific cultural situation involving uneducated women disrupting services, not a universal prohibition. He points to biblical examples of women teaching and prophesying, including Priscilla instructing Apollos, Philip's prophesying daughters, and the broader command for all believers to spread the gospel as evidence that this wasn't a blanket restriction.

Closing Message

Pastor Rob closes by reiterating that salvation cannot be earned through good works, using examples like Moses, David, and the thief on the cross to demonstrate that forgiveness comes through faith in Christ alone, regardless of one's past. He extends an altar call, inviting anyone ready to commit their life to Christ to raise their hand for prayer.
