Amazing Answers to Prayers
In this sermon, Pastor Bob Rotola speaks about shifting from a place of anxiety to one of active, faith-filled prayer and viewing God as a powerful covenant partner who answers impossible requests.

Sermon Highlights
The pastor begins with Philippians 4:6 and explains that believers can either live in a mode that is anxious or prayerful, but not both at once. He describes anxiety as something to stop obeying, and that prayer is the new gear believers are called to operate in. Instead of worrying, believers are urged to talk with God constantly, bring specific requests, and give thanks for past and future answers.
He urges the congregation to stop living a worried, fearful life and instead live a life of prayerful conversation with God, confident that they are speaking to the One who holds the world in His hands.
Prayer, Petition, and Thanksgiving
Pastor Rotola unpacks Philippians 4:6 as a pattern for everyday prayer:
Prayer means talking with God throughout the day.
Petition means making clear and specific requests, such as praying for a marriage, children, the church, or missionaries.
Thanksgiving means remembering and acknowledging what God has already done and thanking Him before the answer appears.
As believers transition from being anxious to being prayerful and thankful, the pastor teaches that their identity can change. When they pray in faith and submit to the Lord, God releases answers. There may be delays, as seen in Daniel’s 21-day spiritual battle. Some victories come in moments, others in years, but believers are encouraged to keep asking for big things that align with God’s will.
He shares that he once kept a bold prayer list full of requests that only God could answer. Years later, when that list was rediscovered, every request had been fulfilled, which he sees as God’s encouragement to keep making new faith-filled lists.
Biblical Examples of Amazing Answers to Prayer
The pastor highlights several biblical stories as examples of God stepping into hopeless situations.
Israel’s Deliverance From Egypt
The Israelites were slaves in Egypt with no chance of escape, yet God delivered them from Pharaoh as described in Exodus 3:9–10. When there is no logical reason to win, there is still a God who fights for His people.
Peter’s Miraculous Release From Prison
In Acts 12, Peter is in jail and scheduled to be killed. The early believers cannot overpower the government, so they pray. God sends an angel into the prison cell, the doors open, and Peter walks out. This is presented as a picture of God turning an irreversible situation around.
Daniel in the Lions’ Den
In Daniel 6, Daniel is thrown into a den of hungry lions, with no natural chance of survival. Yet God shuts the lions’ mouths, again showing that He can intervene when circumstances seem completely final.
From these stories, the pastor encourages the congregation to pray hard prayers while also doing the small daily tasks God has given them. He summarizes this balance as working as if everything depends on them, yet praying as if everything depends on God. Neglecting the little things, he warns, can delay the big things God wants to do.
God Standing in Battle Formation
Isaiah 41:10 becomes a key comfort text in the sermon. Pastor Rotola explains that, in Hebrew, this verse can be understood as God saying that He stands in battle formation with His people, ready to use His righteous right hand.
This image emphasizes that:
God is not distant or passive; He is present on the battlefield of believers’ lives.
He is more like a captain of salvation arriving at the fight than a soft, sentimental image of God.
He knows exactly who His enemies are and who He is in covenant with.
The pastor paraphrases this stance as God saying that He stands in battle formation with believers and is ready to unleash His righteous right hand on their behalf. Believers can either stay at the level of knowing that other people receive from God, or they can press into a deeper covenant relationship in which they themselves begin to receive salvation, healing, provision, and transformation in their own circles.
When God Answers, Others Are Blessed Too
The sermon notes that the benefits of answered prayers often extend beyond the person who prays.
Hezekiah, in 2 Kings 20, is given up to die, but when he prays, God heals him, adds fifteen years to his life, and also defends the city. When God changes one person, He often has other people and whole communities in mind.
Solomon, in 1 Kings 3:5–14, is a very young king when God appears to him at night and invites him to ask for anything. Instead of requesting riches or pleasures, Solomon asks for wisdom to govern the people righteously. Because he desires spiritual things, God grants him wisdom and also gives him wealth, honor, and long life. Solomon becomes one of the wealthiest and most honored people in history.
The pastor stresses that the same God who honored Solomon’s spiritual priorities can meet the needs of believers today when they seek His purposes first.
Modern Testimonies of Miraculous Provision and Healing
To show that God still answers prayer in extraordinary ways, the pastor shares several well-known modern stories.
George Müller and the Orphanage
George Müller ran a large orphanage and chose to trust God for finances rather than ask people for money. One day, they had no food at all, yet he gathered the children at the tables, with empty plates, and led them in thanking God for the meal they were about to receive.
Immediately after they prayed, a baker knocked on the door, saying God had woken him at 2 a.m. to bake bread for the orphanage. Shortly after, a milk truck broke down in front of the building, and the driver gave them all the milk since he could not complete his delivery. All the children’s needs were met, and the children themselves were included in the act of faith, learning to trust God in a practical way.
Dodie Osteen and Healing From Cancer
In 1981, Dodie Osteen was diagnosed with metastatic liver cancer and given only weeks to live. She declined treatment because it was considered too late. Instead, she wrote down more than forty Bible verses related to healing and confessed them aloud every day, reminding God of His promises. According to the testimony, she lived more than forty additional years cancer-free, which the pastor presents as an example of persistent scripture-based prayer.
Kenneth Hagin and Faith for Healing
As a fifteen-year-old with a deformed heart and an incurable blood disease, Kenneth Hagin was expected to die within days. While reading Mark 11:23–24, he realized that Jesus calls believers to speak to their mountains and believe they have received what they ask for in prayer.
He treated his illnesses as the mountain and believed he had already received his healing before seeing any change. He was miraculously healed, and later sensed God instructing him to teach people about faith that obtains answers, not just faith that hangs on until heaven. His ministry went worldwide as he taught this message.
These testimonies show prayer combined with active faith, persistent scripture, and thanksgiving before any visible change.
A Personal Story of Provision in Ministry
Pastor Rotola closes the testimony section with a personal story from his early years of pastoring.
He and his wife had taken a much smaller salary to pastor and were living by faith with two small children. At one point, they had only one meal left in their cupboard and no money at all, yet they were scheduled to bring a meal to someone in the church. They gathered their children, showed them the last meal, and decided together to cook it for the person in need, trusting that God would provide for their family.
The next morning, when they would have had no food, a couple named Gordon and Naen knocked on their door. They said God had woken them in the night and told them to cash in a bond and buy groceries for the pastor’s family. They arrived with about 250 dollars worth of groceries at the time, enough to fill the refrigerator, cupboards, and counters.
The pastor uses this to illustrate that believers do not need to be spiritual heroes to receive amazing answers to prayer. They simply need to bring their needs to the God who is the true giant.
Call to Prayer and Personal Response
The sermon concludes with a corporate time of prayer and an invitation.
The pastor asks the congregation to bring specific, impossible requests to God, such as family restoration, financial crises, or serious medical reports. He leads them in thanking God even before they see the answers, trusting that God is already setting things in motion, sending angels or people as needed to bring His purposes to pass. He reminds them that God is all-powerful, all-knowing, always present, and that He is standing with them in battle formation, with His righteous right hand ready to move on their behalf.
Finally, he invites anyone who has never given their life fully to Christ to respond. It is not enough to know about Jesus or to stand near other people’s faith; each person must personally surrender to Him and enter into covenant.
